The much anticipated Ferrari Purosangue, the first SUV in the Italian exotic car manufacturer’s 75-year history, was finally revealed today. It’s actually described as a unique four-door four-seater combining performance and driving pleasure with increased comfort and space.
The name Purosangue, Italian for “thoroughbred,” is quite fitting for this model, which stands out from other crossovers with a mid-front-mounted engine and gearbox at the rear creating a sporty transaxle layout. The 49/51 weight distribution is what Maranello’s engineers deem optimal for such a configuration.
Ferrari’s most iconic engine, the sweet-sounding, naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, gives the Purosangue 715 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 528 pound-feet of torque at 6,250 rpm, 80 percent of which is available at low revs. Mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, it can sprint from 0-100 km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 10.6 seconds, with a top speed in excess of 310 km/h.
